Tropical storm Henri hit Rhode Island dead center Sunday, August 21, making landfall over Westerly. That meant most of the state was on the windy side of the storm. Here, we got some bursts of rain and several very windy blasts. Around 1:30 or so in the afternoon, during one of those blasts, I heard a loud CRACK. Fortunately, it was not followed shortly by a crash. I looked around outside when the wind died down and the rain slowed to a drizzle, and found some of Henri’s handiwork. A tall maple tree lost half of its top. At about 20 feet up the tree branched into two forks. One split right off and landed in the yard. No other damage. However, I spent today, with help from Marcia Pena, a friend, removing the branch. You can see the tools of the trade–chain saw and loppers. Fortunately I live in the woods, so we simply dumped the pieces over the edge to let nature handle the recycling. You can see the damage to what’s left of the tree.
As long as you are Okay…..Gave you a good reason to be “ out there” with a chainsaw
It’s a relatively small chain saw, battery operated, so not such a macho thing! Tree trunk is only about 6″ in diameter. Any bigger, or if still attached to the main trunk, then I’d be calling a tree guy.
Fortunately it missed the house!! Relief!!
Take care.❤️
Thanks, Jan. Yes, fortunate indeed!
Glad to see you’re safe and not much damage. About the same here. Be well
Thanks. Just glad my house and patio are intact. All the rest can be dealt with.
Thanks for the update for wondered since Henri curved toward you. Next time Maple will grow more sturdy not tall and slim? Maybe it was only the top but sure glad with you that it fell away or was too short.
It fell parallel to the house, but even if it had fallen toward the house, it wouldn’t have reached.
