Late April and early May can be a real tease. One day will be tantalizingly warm and sunny, the next cold and rainy. Through it all the daffodils bloom. I have three kinds in my yard. The large yellow ones are mixed in with the whites, and the miniature yellows are scattered in several places throughout the yard. First to show off their lovely blossoms are the miniatures, followed soon by the large yellow ones. Occasionally one of the miniatures will bud forth with two blossoms on a single stalk, but that skill is owned by the whites. For them, nearly every bulb produces double blossoms, as you can see in the photos below.
For these photos I used an indoor setup with a black background cloth at a distance from the subjects. Then I used a macro lens with a small aperture for greater depth of field. Lighting was with three speedlights, two from the side and one in front. For the image at the top of the page I used just one light behind the flower.

You have a truly amazing skill. What is the distinction between a daffodil and jonquil? Roberta
Laura Landen
Daffodils have a long trumpet. For jonquils, it’s much shorter.

Beautiful, Laura. Love my daffodils because the deer don’t seem to like them.
Laura Landen
Yes. Deer will eat most everything else. They took out my marsh marigolds this year. I caught it on my trail camera video.

Lovely, Laura.
I miss the spring flowers which are not really Florida friendly in our gardens. Gardenias, Orchids, Hibiscus, Plumeria are abundant, however.
Laura Landen
Thanks, Mary Carol. You get more color year round in Florida. We have to take what we get when it’s available. Hope you and yours are well.
Barbara
Wow, Laura, these are amazing. So crisp! My favorite is the backlit one.
Laura Landen
Thanks, Barbara. That’s my favorite, too. Fun to do.
